YAG

Laser

You have just undergone a YAG laser capsulotomy to improve your vision following cataract surgery. This procedure uses a laser to create an opening in the cloudy capsule that sometimes forms behind the intraocular lens implant.

Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure a smooth recovery:

What to Expect After the Procedure

Vision: You may notice improvement in your vision within a few hours to a few days. However, it may be blurry at first due to dilating drops or debris in the eye.

Floaters: Some floaters are common after the laser. These usually fade over time but may persist in some cases.
Discomfort: Mild eye irritation or a scratchy feeling is normal. Pain is uncommon. If you experience significant pain, contact your doctor.

Medications
Anti-inflammatory eye drops (e.g., Prednisolone, Ketorolac, or similar) may be prescribed. Use as directed, usually 2–4 times daily for 3–5 days. Shake the bottle before use and apply only the number of drops prescribed. If you were already using drops in this eye for another condition (e.g., glaucoma), continue them unless told otherwise.

Activity Restrictions
No special restrictions are typically required. You may resume normal activities, including reading, watching TV, using the computer, and bathing. You can return to work the next day unless otherwise advised.

Call Your Doctor If You Experience: A sudden decrease in vision. A large increase in floaters or flashing lights. Eye pain or severe headache. Nausea or vomiting. Redness that gets worse instead of better

Follow-Up Appointment
A follow-up exam is typically scheduled within 1–2 weeks after the procedure to check your vision and eye pressure. Be sure to attend this appointment even if you're feeling fine.

Eyeglasses
Your prescription may change after the laser. You may need updated glasses if vision improves significantly. Wait until your follow-up exam before getting new glasses.
